Lindiwe by FSP — handcrafted leather and gameskin bags

Craft & Continuity

In 1998, Fiona Cuyler Borthwick founded FSP Collection. What began as a small workshop in Cape Town gradually grew into a recognised maker of handcrafted leather and gameskin pieces.

In 2023, the company entered a new chapter under the ownership of Andrew Pittaway. Drawn to the brand's deep respect for craft, natural materials, and thoughtful design, Pittaway has continued to build on this foundation while guiding the business into its next phase.

With a strong appreciation for the remarkable artisans and generational skill behind the workshop, his vision includes the introduction of Lindiwe and IZIT — new brands that signal the future direction of the company. While honouring the craftsmanship and authenticity that have always defined FSP Collection, Lindiwe and IZIT explore new ideas, materials, and ways of sharing African design with the world.

The Arrival of Lindiwe

Lindiwe, a Zulu name meaning "the one we have waited for," is the natural expression of this next chapter. The name carries a quiet sense of significance, reflecting something deeply valued and long anticipated. It was also chosen as a way to connect with those who visit our studio and travel through Africa, people who fall in love with this country as much as we have. In many ways, it reflects the journeys made across this land and the memories carried home.

Our Commitment to Sustainability and Social Responsibility

The materials, the craftsmanship, and the journey behind each piece connect the wearer to something deeper than fashion alone.

Our work begins with care — care for the people who make each piece, for the materials that shape it, and for the landscapes that inspire it. The hides we work with are responsibly sourced through regulated South African conservation programs and the venison industry, ensuring that nothing is taken without purpose. We partner with trusted suppliers and certified tanneries who share our respect for quality, traceability, and responsible practice.

For us, sustainability is not a modern concept. It is simply the way things have always been done — a quiet balance between craftsmanship, respect for animals, the wellbeing of our artisans, and care for the land that provides these materials.

Hide — consciously crafted leather

Hide

Consciously crafted. Authentically African.

Hide sits at the heart of our work. The springbok and zebra skins we use are sourced through regulated conservation programs and carefully selected South African tanneries. Each hide carries the markings of the landscape it came from, subtle variations in tone, pattern, and texture that cannot be replicated.

Our role is simply to honour this natural soft character through thoughtful design and skilled craftsmanship, allowing each piece to retain the quiet individuality of the material itself.

Springbok

The springbok is one of South Africa's most abundant antelope, and maintaining balanced populations plays an important role in protecting the landscapes they inhabit. The hides we work with are by-products of the venison and wildlife industries, allowing this remarkable natural material to be honoured rather than discarded.

Each springbok skin carries its own markings shaped by the landscapes it once moved through. No two are ever the same, giving every piece its own quiet individuality.

Zebra

The zebra is one of Africa's most recognisable animals, and the hides we use are sourced with deep respect for both the animal and the ecosystems they live in. They come from licensed game farms and conservation reserves where populations are carefully managed under wildlife authority supervision.

Responsible conservation helps maintain balance within these landscapes. When zebra populations grow beyond what the land can support, careful management ensures the health of the herd while protecting the fragile ecosystems around them.

We source our zebra hides only from trusted South African suppliers who provide full traceability and meet strict ethical standards. Each hide carries its own natural pattern, shaped by nature itself. No two are ever alike, and no pattern is ever repeated.

Our Approach

Working with What Already Exists

From the beginning, we believed in working with what already exists. Long before terms like upcycling entered the conversation, we were transforming natural hides into pieces designed to last. Every material carries its own story, and our role is simply to shape it with care.

Care at the Heart of the Process

Care runs quietly through every step of our work. We collaborate with South African tanneries and skilled artisans who share our respect for materials, people, and the environment. Thoughtful tanning methods, low-impact dyes, and considered-batch production allow each piece the time and attention it deserves while keeping waste to a minimum.

Made by Hands

Every piece is made by hand in our Cape Town studio by artisans we know by name. This is not factory line production, but a community of makers whose skill and experience guide every stitch and detail. Their knowledge, built over years of working with leather, shapes the character of each piece.

Designed to Live With You

We design for longevity. Our pieces are created to travel through years, becoming part of the lives of those who carry them. When something can be repaired, we repair it. When smaller pieces of leather remain, they are carefully transformed into smaller goods. In our studio, every material is valued.
