Where Our Skins Come From
Consciously crafted. Authentically African.
At FSP, we believe true luxury is rooted in respect for nature, for people, and for craft. Our springbok and zebra hides are sourced through regulated South African conservation programs and certified tanneries. Every piece we make carries the story of sustainability, traceability, and heritage.
Springbok Skins
By-product of Conservation
Springbok are among South Africa’s most abundant antelope. Conservation teams manage their populations to prevent overgrazing and protect delicate ecosystems. The hides we use are by-products of this management and the venison industry. They are never hunted for leather alone.
Sustainable, Not Wasteful
Instead of discarding these hides, we give them new purpose. Each springbok skin has unique markings and colourations, meaning no two bags are ever the same.
Locally Tanned. Responsibly Finished
Our springbok hides are tanned in South Africa using traceable, environmentally conscious methods. We work only with certified tanneries that meet strict ethical, quality, and environmental standards.

Zebra Skins
Ethical Sourcing with Respect
Zebra hides come from licensed game farms and conservation reserves where populations are carefully managed under wildlife authority supervision. As with springbok, they are by-products of the meat and wildlife industry, never taken purely for fashion.
Balancing Biodiversity
Unmanaged zebra herds can quickly outgrow their habitats, leading to resource strain. Ethical conservation ensures animal welfare while maintaining environmental balance.
Certified and Transparent
We source exclusively from certified South African suppliers who provide full traceability. Every zebra hide is naturally patterned by the wild. No artificial prints, just nature’s own design.
Why It Matters
By choosing FSP, you are supporting:
• Conservation-driven wildlife management
• The use of natural over synthetic materials
• Small-batch production and South African artisans
• Waste reduction and full-animal utilisation
Our Approach
Upcycling Before It Was Cool
We have always believed in using what already exists. Long before upcycling became a trend, we were transforming natural hides into timeless designs.
Care at the Core
We partner with South African tanneries and artisans who share our values:
• REACH-compliant tanning practices
• Low-impact dyes and water-saving methods
• Small-batch production to minimise waste
Made by People, Not Machines
Every piece is handmade in our Cape Town studio by artisans we know by name. These are not factory lines, but creative collaborations with fair wages, shared design input, and respect for skill and tradition.
Designing for Circularity
We do not design for landfills. We design for legacy. Our pieces are made to last, with repair support offered to extend their life. Offcuts become purses, tags, or small goods. Nothing is wasted.

Local First
From sourcing to tanning to finishing, nearly everything happens within a few hundred kilometres of our Cape Town studio. This keeps our footprint low while strengthening local jobs and heritage trades.
(Transparency note: Some components, like hardware, are sourced internationally. We are working to map these clearly and share more about our suppliers’ social responsibility practices.)
Sustainable Packaging
Our packaging is lightweight, reusable, and purposeful. Some of it is even made locally in South Africa from recycled PET bottles.
A Living Commitment
We are not perfect, but we are committed. For us, transparency is not a marketing phrase. It is how we work. We celebrate what we are proud of, own where we can do better, and welcome every question.
